Ahh, September.
Such a great month for homeschoolers ~ those first days of a new academic year hold a very special place in my heart. While so many mothers were sending their kids "away" after the summer break, I was blessed to get to spend even more time with mine.
September represents so many wonderful memories for me. And I hope it does for you, too.
I usually spent a part of my summer planning the upcoming school year & the kids could choose new school supplies and even some of their coursework based on their interests. They could decide what extracurricular activities they wanted to participate in during the fall months, and sure enough, year after year, the big picture would come together.
The years when I planned BIG were probably my favorite ~ not because I enjoy a challenge (I seriously don't think that describes me at all) and not because I wanted to see my children get as much done as they possibly could. It was because those years were usually the ones when they got to do things they wanted to do and I got to see the Lord reveal more of who He was molding them to be as adults one day.
I planned BIG when the Lord moved me to do so. And during the years when He led me to plan more simply, I did just that. His plans are always best, but boy is it exciting and fun when He pushes us to new things, BIG things.
What BIG things is the Lord doing in your family's life this fall?
It doesn't have to be massive to be BIG...learning to bake, beginning a foreign language, trying your hand at archery or figure skating - those are BIG things, for sure!
Maybe this is your first year of homeschooling. If so, hey, that's a massively BIG new thing! May I just encourage you that all of us who homeschool had a first year of homeschooling, and we were just as nervous as you probably are. But this could be the most amazing thing you've ever done. Try to relax and know a whole mess of us have been in your shoes and have lived to tell about it!
Maybe this is your last year of homeschooling. Yup, that's also a massively BIG thing. Hang in there, finish this last leg of your race well, and know that some of us are walking a similar path. You've done a great thing, and society will be impacted in immeasurable and positive ways because of that. You're my hero - and I really do mean that.
Do something BIG this year - this week - this day. Because God loves you and your kiddos so very much that He has some amazingly fabulous BIG things planned for you!
Day 392 done :)
