"The world expects, and rightly, that the Christian should be more gentle, and patient, and generous, than he who does not profess to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus." ~ Mark Guy Pearse
Well, well, well...that's a stiff drink of truth for me today! Sometimes I read something and it just pierces my heart & I know that, now that I have seen it, I cannot un-see it. The above quote is a great example.
Truth cuts right through all the nonsense and brings our excuses out of the murky darkness and into the cold but clarifying light of day. The truth is powerful and can inspire change where it is needed...so long as we let the Lord work out His will based on the truths He has shown us.
So how does this quote relate to homeschooling women?
Mothers cannot be screaming at their children and acting out in a rage and still believe that the world sees Christ when it looks at them. Mothers cannot openly ignore their children when they are misbehaving, nor when they cry out with a need, and yet think the watching world sees them as examples of Christ and His great & enduring & unending love. The world really does expect more from us.
The problem may well be that we expect so very little from ourselves.
Are you more gentle, more patient, more generous than those who are not Jesus' disciples? If not, don't you think you OUGHT to be??
Not only is there a watching world, but within your family - right there in your homeschool - your children are watching as well. They are living under your spiritual umbrella, so to speak. Are you certain that your umbrella is protecting them and shepherding them? Or has the umbrella blown away in the windy storms of life, leaving them exposed to the world and all of it's harsh elements?
You are a disciple of the Lord Jesus. Today, I encourage & challenge you to behave as such by walking in His love and receiving (and in turn giving) His abundant grace and mercy.
Lord bless you, fellow homeschooling mother, as you seek to glorify Him today!
