If there is one thing I have learned from a couple of decades plus change as a homeschooler, it's this:
~ Getting the Word of God into me as often as possible keeps my family advancing onward....and keeps me from going insane.
Now, I'm not implying that homeschooling will make a mama go nutso. But I am saying that life in general has a way of bringing the crazy out of the best of us. And homeschooling adds a whole new layer to the crazy-cake at times. Not because it isn't awesome (because it is!) but because it takes the job of "Mom" and gives that job a massive promotion that comes with the title "Homeschool Mom". Which could also be read "Guidance Counselor/Gourmet Chef/Housekeeper/Laundress/Chauffeur/Athletic Coach & Encourager/Financial Adviser/Teacher-of-ALL-the-Subjects". (disclaimer: this is not an exhaustive list!)
So, yea. It's no big stretch to understand that some crazy could come into play when a woman juggles so many roles.
I'm in the Word of God every single day. Monday through Saturday, that happens first thing in the morning. On Sundays, it happens at church and then sometimes later in the evening as well. On Wednesdays, I double-dip into the Word at the youth group we work with. And on Thursday evenings, I have a raucous of a time with my CBS women's group.
But that's my life TODAY.
When my kids were all younger, I had to find ways to get the Word of God into me that fit with that season of my life. Sometimes I read my Bible after their bedtime. Sometimes I did a Bible study during nap time. And often I would write out verses on note cards and keep them on my bathroom mirror, the dashboard of the car, or even in my pocket to grab and read whenever I could.
These days, I have note cards and journals all over the place with years and years of verses written down. And I also have a cute red-framed chalkboard in the kitchen that says "Verse of the Week" in a lovely script. That lets me keep a specific or encouraging Word in front of us all the time. I love it ~ I wish I had added it to our decor years earlier than I did.
So today I just want to leave you with this thought: What do you need to do today to get the Word into you? My challenge is to find a verse of the week and then do it again next week and so on. Put it on note cards or a whiteboard or journal it every day of the week. Post it on Facebook, Tweet it, make a nice graphic and put it on your Instagram. Just get the Word into you by getting it in front of you as often as you can.
Please.
Pretty please.
Because it is so, so important to nourish your inner man. So don't neglect yourself! And get ya'self a Word right away!
Day 380 done :)
Lord bless you!
